It turns out this page is now blocked my most content blockers.  If you can still see this leave a comment!

Welcome! I have made this page to help people get around their school’s restrictive content filtering system to access MySpace and Facebook. Unfortunately, the information here gets blocked on a regularly quick basis, so these may or may not work. If one of the sites don’t work, please let me know in the comments. Don’t just say “this site sucks, it didn’t unblock myspace!” That doesn’t tell me what the problem actually is. Please be as specific as possible, since I don’t run these sites, I need to pass on as much information to the operator.

PeaceFire Proxies The proxy pages I list are created by PeaceFire, a for profit company which creates proxies every so often.  While they let you visit facebook and myspace from school, they’re slow and have plenty of ads.  I suggest using Firefox with adBlock+ so you don’t see any of the (annoying) ads. Just as a cautionary tale, the advertisements PeaceFire uses directly affects Internet Explorer. They attempt to install malicious software on your computer.  All the more reason to use Firefox! Click to get Firefox!

Make Your Own Proxy

It is also possible to make your own proxy page from software already found on the Internet.  Hosting your own proxy page will give you faster load times, no ads (unless you put them there!) and your private proxy is far less likely to be blocked. Managed Proxy Hosting If you don’t want to take the time or risk of setting up a webserver on your home computer there are companies which will host your proxy for you – for a nominal fee. I searched for a bit to find an excellent hosting provider: StrikeData Corporation.  They’ll pretty much do everything for you, they’ll even install the proxy script for you! Just a heads up, don’t leave any support questions below, I don’t work for StrikeData so I can’t solve any tech support issues. Click to go to StrikeData! Hosting a proxy yourself If you don’t want to pay the $2.99 for the luxury of managed services just to visit facebook, you can host a proxy server on your home computer to avoid the firewall/content filter on your school’s network. Just remember, you cannot install a proxy server on a computer that is behind a content filter.  Instead, find a friend willing to install the program on his or her computer. Here are some simple instructions on how to create your own proxy page.

  1. Download and Install Abyss Web Server from Apelium’s Download Page.
  2. Follow the instructions on installing and activating the Perl programming language located on Aprelium’s help and support page.
  3. Download CGIProxy, which is what PeaceFire uses on their scripts, from this link.
  4. Extract the folders (using 7zip) into htdocs folder (defaults at C:\Program Files\Abyss Web Server\htdocs on Windows based computers).
  5. You should be able to access your CGIProxy installation by typing your IP Address into your “Address Bar”.

If you have an IP that consistently changes (most people on a Cable/DSL connection have an IP which doesn’t change) you can get a free domain from dyndns.org.  You can install a program to automatically update your domain to direct to your IP whenever it changes. Beyond that, its up to you and Google to get your server up and running. Good luck and happy browsing!
